The Octagon House, five floors of solid brick construction completed in 1854, was designed and built by John Richards, a pioneer Watertown settler. The House is one of the largest single family residences of the pre-Civil War period in Wisconsin. Richards arrived in Watertown, on foot, in the spring of 1837. Once here he became the first lawyer in Jefferson County, as well as the owner of several mills. In 1849 he married his sweetheart, the former Eliza Forbes. He promised to build her the finest home in the Wisconsin Territory if she would marry him. Its construction includes central heating, running water and ventilating systems. In addition to those "modern conveniences," the house features a central spiral staircase which rises from the first floor to the tower room. The Richards family and their descendants resided in the home until 1937. The Richards family and their descendants resided in the home until 1937. Since 1938 the Octagon House has been open to the public.

The Elias Inn Supper Club
200 N 2nd St.
Watertown, WI 53194
- Show on Big Map
This beautiful Tudor Revival building was designed in 1933, built for $16,190 and named the Powers' Inn. It was a supper club until the early 1970s. In 1973, Kramer Rock and Dale Wood purchased the building from Ray Powers and renamed it the Old World Pub, kept the inside look and aimed to be a destination for cocktails, live music, and dancing. In 1986, John Elias, Tammy Probst, and Greg "Slim" Schroeder bought the building, renaming it "The Elias Inn", then built its fame as a destination supper club, offering the classic relish tray, all you can eat Friday night fish fry, and hand-cut dry-aged Prime Rib on Saturday nights. John, Tammy, and Slim finally hung up their aprons in 2022, selling the building and business to Michael & Lydia Sobol, and their partner, Nathanial Rupnow. Mike and Lydia currently also own Sobie's Restaurant in Oconomowoc. We're proud to continue the legacy of this building & supper club, and hope you'l enjoy your time at The Elias Inn!
